First Aid For Vomiting

I know that we need to send our dog immediately to the vet if our dog is vomiting continuously. What is the first aid that we can do to our dogs in order to help them get relief from their sickness while traveling to or waiting for the vet?

Some canned pumpkin may help. Canned pumpkin helps with a lot of digestive issues, such as upset stomach, diarrhea, and constipation. Be sure to get plain canned pumpkin, though, and not pumpkin pie filling or mix.

Give approximately 1/2 teaspoon of canned pumpkin to your dog if he's small, weighing only a few pounds. If your dog is large, weighing about 75 pounds, you can give him one tablespoon of canned pumpkin.

You're definitely right - you should always consult your vet if your dog is vomiting.

My vet says that vomiting isn't usually a big issue unless you have reason to believe the dog has something stuck in its mouth or throat or the vomiting is accompanied by other symptoms like diarrhea or fatigue. Kaopectate is what the vet recommended in the past, so I keep some on hand. I didn't know that canned pumpkin can help too. I'm glad you shared that SpanielsRule! I think it's a better solution than the over-the-counter medicine.

Thank you both for those suggestions. Your pumpkin suggestion makes me want to eat a pumpkin pie. I remember my mother mixing sugar in plain water and she carefully feeds that to our dog. She said that it will help in recovering strength. Is there truth about this?

What about the food to avoid when they are vomiting?
