Woolsy is changing his fur at least once a year. Is this normal and do all dogs shed their fur regularly? Is there any illness that has a symptom of fur shedding?
You are correct Sadie, but I think the topic has gone the other way. I blame myself for that for not specifying the subject matter.
What I'd like us to discuss is securing the dogs for transport. For example, how stray dogs are transported to shelters.
It is indeed a hot topic and even professionals are not united in one understanding. One vaccine I'm concerned about is the Rabies vaccine. I'm asking this in line with the Shingles vaccine for humans.
Is there a possibility that the Rabies vaccine might actually induce my dog to get sick?
I don't have the luxury of time to frequently walk my dog so I let my friend, who also loves dogs, walk Woolsy every afternoon, as long as it is not raining. I walk Woolsy during the weekends so we can also have time to bond together.
I think the bathing frequency depends on the weather and the type of the dog's fur. During the cold season, Woolsy gets a bath once a week, sometimes once in two weeks, and then he gets 2 or 3 baths in a week during summer.
I think dogs dream as well during their sleep. Woolsy sometimes barks or runs while he is sleeping. I wonder if they also have bad dreams just like we do. Anyhow, he is in the house so I won't worry about him when he is "sleep running".
I heard that picking up the puppies often will hinder their growth. I know this is just a myth, but anyone else ever heard of this? I love picking up puppies because they are so cute.
When I was young, I try to imitate how the mother dog holds her puppies. Is that okay to do with puppies?
There are some puppies that don't want to be carried and they wiggle in order to get free. Holding them above the neck makes them calmer, just my observation.
I did get another one after that, but my connection to my first dog was very unique as I was the one who took care of her since she was a puppy. The dogs that followed were mostly taken care of by my mother.
I can't remember her name anymore because I had her when I was 6 years old. I can still recall the day that she passed away. I was going to school with my aunt and she kept following us. We have to cross the road and she followed. When I realized that she was following us, I told her to go back...
Thanks for your input. Is it a good idea to train a dog to go into a crate at a very early age? Specifically, when do we need to train them that getting into a crate is harmless and that it is for their protection?
Which is more humane thing to do when we need to secure a dog, tying it or putting it in a cage? I will always go with cage, if we really need to keep the dog secured. How do we feel when a human suspect is tied up to a pole or a corner?
Thinking back on this topic, I realized that we domesticated different types of dogs and there are some species that are not suited to the environment we are placing them in. Huskies for example, are suited best in cold places so we don't really need to put clothes on them to keep them warm. On...
Good list you have there DenverDog. Bumping into things is the first sign that there is something wrong with the eyesight. When that happens then we should immediately go see our vet and let the dog have a check-up.
The word cute is only applicable to us, humans. I don't know if the dogs see those clothes as cute or comfortable. I try to think of what my dog feels and not necessarily the looks.
