I'd love to be a dog groomer in my next life!

It does take a lot of patience but it is a labor of love. I enjoy all of my clients and they know, for the most part, that I am there to help them and make them feel better. It gives me a certain sense of satisfaction seeing them prance out of the shop.

    Table Scraps

Do you believe in giving your pooch table scraps? I do very rarely. Even then, I will wait till the meal is over and put the scraps in their respective dishes. I just can't stand to go to someone's home and have the dog beg during the entire meal.

I'd love to be a dog groomer in my next life!

I am a Master groomer, breeder, trainer and I love it. I have been bitten, scratched and growled at but I just keep on going. I am in the middle of a dog show circuit right now. We just got back from Georgia where my little pug won ribbons and points. I guess the worst dog I have ever...

    Processed Dog Food

Good point @Keats. I am sure the market vendors would rather get a little money from their vegetables rather than none at all. How much does the butcher charge for his odds and ends? I have a butcher right down the street that may do the same for me. Thanks!

    Processed Dog Food

I didn't realize the raw diet was about the same cost as high end dry food @Keats. Thanks for that information. My girls are on Iams Dog Food. I picked up a back of Blue Buffalo Wilderness just to see if they liked it. Oh my, did they ever. I can't afford to feed this to them all the time...

    Matted Fur

Oh Vinny, what a great story. I'm such a sucker for all pet stories. I am so glad most of them have happy endings and forever homes. I can't imagine how some of these dogs have been treated. Some people are so cruel.

    Matted Fur

I see all these horror stories on the internet about abandoned dogs being rescued and cleaned up so they could find a forever home. One in particular was a long haired dog with its fur so matted it was making his skin bleed. Having short haired well groomed dogs, I never realized this could...

Since a dog can't tell time...

Interesting thoughts from you both. Thanks. I do believe that a dog can tell time simply by getting accustomed to your routine. For example, if you get up and go to work every day, the dog knows you will be back and he will be waiting on you to take him for a walk, if that's your routine. My...

    Processed Dog Food

It depends on a number of factors. How big is your dog? Can you afford to fee him/her/them the raw food diet all the time? There are several nutritionally sound dog foods out there that won't cost an arm and a leg and achieve the same results. At one time there were more nutrients in a bag...

    Hot Pavement and Sand

Good to know Kirsten. We try to plan our walks early in the morning and at sundown. They go out during the day to potty in the backyard which has grass so they don't get too hot there. I used to live in Colorado. Beautiful country, very cold and lots of snow. Your sled dogs should be right...

    Hot Pavement and Sand

I live on the coast and am always aware of hot pavement and sand when the girls and I go for a walk. I know their pads are tough but as hot as it gets here, there is always the possibility they could burn their feet. I guess I'm just being over protective but I love my girls.

    Fleas

@HereSadie, the kind I get is not hard to apply. It come in those little tubes that you apply to the back of the neck. I can't detect a smell. My babies just don't like the procedure.

    Service Dogs

Well!! I just can't think like that. I would never lie about my dog just to get it into a restaurant or on a plane. It would just ever occur to me. Thank you for clarifying the training part. I knew they had to be trained some and thought they needed a lot of training. Good to know.

    Fleas

I have tried every medication there is, I think, to fight fleas on my dogs and nothing works. My sister told me she uses Revolution on her cats and hasn't seen a flea in ages. I went to the Vet and he gave me a prescription. It is rather pricey but works like a charm. I know it sounds like...

    Training treats?

That's a good idea Kirsten. Giving wet food as a treat would be great with my older pug. I'm training the younger one to show so I'll have to stick with dry treats for her.

    Service Dogs

Fake service dogs? Please explain. I've never heard of a fake service dog. Why would someone want to do something like this? Service dogs are highly trained to meet the needs of their "person." I just can't imagine trying to get away with something like this.

Are you your dog's favorite person?

Nobody ever comes to see me. They always come to see my pugs, or so they think. I'm not even in the room when there is company in the house. When company leaves they go back to being perfect lap dogs again. I guess my girls will fall into that 70% category of spending more time with others...

    Service Dogs

I knew that Kirsten! I meant to say therapy dog instead of service dog. Thanks for setting it straight. This Rottweiler I'm talking about was supposed to be a service dog but they found a heart murmur in him. He turned out to be a very good therapy dog instead and all the residents love him...

Keeping my dog entertained while I'm at work?

Have you ever heard of Petziconnect? You have the capability to talk to your pet, see what he does during the day and even dispense a treat to him using your smart phone. Look this up and let us know what you think.

    Service Dogs

Mom is in a nursing home and there are several service dogs that come around to visit. BoBo is a big gentle Rottweiler who seems to love all the residents. And they love him. I have great respect for the owners of these dogs who are willing to share and serve. Thanks to you all!
