What are your go-to book recommendations for dog owners who want to learn more about training techniques? I'd like to find something that goes beyond the basics.

Here are a few that are regularly recommended that will set anyone on the right path on how dogs think and learn. I’ll send out a request to our writers to get a nice list and article for this topic.

* Karen Pryor- Don’t Shoot The Dog
* Jean Donaldson- The Culture Clash
* Pamela Reid- Excel- Erated learning

There is a large list of some great books but these are definitely a good start.

Beyond the Basics: Unlock Your Dog's Behavior by Denise Fenzi is a great book. The book explores a dog's temperament, emotions, and health and the role these factors play in training.

Decoding Your Dog: Explaining Common Dog Behaviors and How to Prevent or Change Unwanted Ones is also an excellent choice. The authors of this book are all veterinary behaviorists. The book explains why dogs act the way they do and how you can effectively shape your dog's behavior. Not only are common problems addressed in this book but so are compulsive behaviors and separation anxiety.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

Thanks a bunch for the great recommendations. I checked and my library has Decoding Your Dog: Explaining Common Dog Behaviors and How to Prevent or Change Unwanted Ones, so I've reserved it for the coming week. I'm going to see if any of the other books are available in ebook format for Amazon Kindle so I can read them this weekend. Thank you both for the suggestions!
