Matted Fur

I see all these horror stories on the internet about abandoned dogs being rescued and cleaned up so they could find a forever home. One in particular was a long haired dog with its fur so matted it was making his skin bleed. Having short haired well groomed dogs, I never realized this could happen. This poor fellow had to be sedated in order to get all that fur off. Transformation was miraculous of course and he turned out to be a cute dog. Matted fur is not a good thing.

No, it's not a good thing, and I know for a fact it happens because I've seen it. People can be really inconsiderate when it comes to pets. I think there are some people out there who feel like dogs have no feelings. I've heard of people who have never washed their dogs. It's sad. Taking on a pet is just like taking on a child, they need about the same care. Of course you have to make sure that a child goes to school on a daily basis, and learns to read, and do math and all sorts of other things, but a dog requires daily attention too, just in a different sort of way. I know some people who don't exercise their dogs every day, or don't take them on walks every day, and then wonder why the dog is stir crazy. Dogs have to be exercised daily, and if not daily at least several times a week. They have to be attended to, and taken care of.

Oh Vinny, what a great story. I'm such a sucker for all pet stories. I am so glad most of them have happy endings and forever homes. I can't imagine how some of these dogs have been treated. Some people are so cruel.

It's really sad when I see dogs with matted fur to that extent. I was watching a show on Animal Planet several years ago. I believe it was called, "Animal Cops," or something like that. Anyway, they rescued a dog with such matted fur, it made me cry. They had to sedate her and get it all off. She was a really adorable dog under all that fur, and she ended up finding a wonderful forever home.

My dog is short-haired, too, but I brush her often. I'm fortunate that she enjoys being brushed. It's a great time for us to bond.

Here goes one of my experiences with a matted dog Rags to Riches. This was one of the worst I seen personally. I also agree that an overall enrichment plan for all animals is a must.
That made my whole night! I love feel-good stories, especially when it comes to animals. I can't believe how tiny Mattie was underneath those tangles. By the way, your avatar looks remarkably like your real photo.

The groomer we frequent also volunteers to clean up the dogs at the shelter when a simple bath isn't enough. The dogs look completely different when she's through! She's groomed some dark brown dogs that turned out to be sparkling white underneath the filth. It has to feel better and it always seems to give them a confidence boost.

I think this is truly wonderful! What a fantastic service to provide to dogs looking for their loving forever homes. Please thank your groomer for me. I hope she knows what a difference she's making in all these dogs' lives!

Like us humans, dogs seem to feel better about themselves when they look nice. I bet the extra confidence they gain after being groomed helps them find loving forever homes more quickly because their true personalities can shine through.
